Why did we start making soap?
My mom and I were born with super sensitive skin, especially my Mom. A lot of things would irritate her skin, including soaps she washed her clothing in. Sometimes to the point of her skin looking burned. She heard about goat milk soap and how it helps sensitive skin. So in did her own research on what helps the most, like organic, natural oils and foods. Yes, food. Oatmeal soothes the skin. Ground cinnamon and almonds exfoliate and wake the skin up. Honey and olive oil heals the skin. Natural oils help moisturize while the lye and goat milk saponify to cleanse your skin without stripping your skin of its own natural oils, unlike detergent soap (which is most factory made soap). She started making soap in 2017, mostly for ourselves, using her own goats’ milk in the soap. Soap making started out as a hobby and to have a good quality soap that's gentle on our sensitive skin. We gifted soap to family members and friends and they all immediately loved it. So, she decided to start selling soap bars to earn money that would be given back to her goats, for their shelter and food. I began to grow interested in the soap making process, especially because it's the only soap I have personally used since my mom started making it. At the same time I began to learn the process, my mom was researching and branching out to learn to create more skin-loving products, like body butter, lip balm, and shampoo. Together, we decided to start our family's, woman-owned business, HK&T Pretty Soap LLC.
